Genealogy Software
If you decide not to subscribe to a Family Tree Website where you can create, build and store your family tree, you should purchase genealogy software (Family Tree Builder, Family Tree Maker, GenPro, Gramps, Legacy Family Tree, etc.) Without an electronic database you will become hopelessly lost within mounds of paper and post-it notes.
Genealogy Societies
Established family history organizations may be national, or related to specific areas, and can be a useful resource. Their services include advice and support from experienced volunteers, forums, message boards, publications, newsletters, research notes, family histories, journals, maps, cemetery monument transcriptions, and photographs.
